What is Sculptra

Post-Treatment Guidelines

Sculptra post-care instructions:

• An ice pack, or provided ice balloon, may be applied to the treatment area to help reduce swelling within the first 24 hours of treatment. Apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin.

• You will receive a handout regarding the locations to massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after treatment.

• Concealer may be used to cover bruising immediately after treatment, however, effectiveness varies by skin type and application. Most patients can resume normal activities after treatment

• You many cleanse the area gently with a mild cleanser after six hours

• For bruising, excessive bleeding, and swelling, Anicare can be very effective when used as a topical gel or an oral tablet.

• In general, for every 10 years of your life, plan on purchasing one vial. If you are greater than 60 year sold, expect to need six vials.

How long dose the treatment will take?

The procedure generally lasts between one to two hours, but treatment time will vary depending on the area and number of areas.

When can I see the results?

Sculptra generally lasts 30 months, but individual results vary. Follow-up treatments should be repeated, as advised by your provider. Two vials are injected per visit 6-8 weeks apart. Best results will be seen after 6 months of treatment. Once your volume has replenished, it will last approximately 30 months on average. Thereafter, you may need two vials per year for maintenance of collagen production, since we continue to lose collagen as we age. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

What are some common side effects?

Bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness may occur in/around the treatment area. Swelling, redness, and tenderness may last for several days while bruising may last 1-2 weeks. Not all patients experience these, but please note that such effects can occur and are common after treatment. Most of these side effects resolve within a week. Call us if you have itching or persistent symptoms beyond 2 weeks. Treatment site may appear uneven, distorted or firm as a result of swelling. This is normal and will resolve within a week. If this persists beyond this time, please contact our office.
